But the other stuff is just a slow realization that maybe I'm not at the place in my life where I need a car like this. Some of it is definitely ignorance on my part-I didn't know much about turbos or AWD before buying, and I'm still learning even now. some concern about the longevity of the turbo and some alarm at how frequently Subaru engines and transmissions fail.
the cheap, plastic-y interior shows scratches and skid marks if you so much as rub against it I drove my dad's '99 Accord the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the ebbs and flows of the motor. the CVT transmission is just the most boring thing. the ride is bumpy, the car already rattles in places at 6500 miles even though I have the XT, the engine is sluggish unless you're in S# or S. I live in CA, so we don't get bad weather.The benefits of the AWD are vastly overstated for me.

I really miss not having a manual transmission. Though I'd like to, it's not something I do or have done. not really outdoorsy, so I don't take this on trips to the mountains or anything. And it has as much to do with me as it does with the Forester. I just had this face on the entire drive: So likely, real world mpgs will be around 27 to 27.5 mpg! (based on computer and hand-calculated discrepancy I observed with my Crosstrek and WRX) Not bad, not bad at all. The best part is that, though I happily boosted my way up the mountain, I'm currently getting a 28.9 mpg readout. Steering feel was good enough, though a tad not as connected as the Crosstrek. However, the ride was compliant, but the suspension was firm and very planted and overall handling was better than the Crosstrek. The S mode was more than adequate to make quick passing of slower vehicles.Ĭoming from WRX, the Crosstrek surprisingly has a very good suspension setup, and one primary concern of mine was that going from it to the bigger and taller Forester would sacrifice some of the handling I enjoyed with the Crosstrek. Finally had the chance to drive my '17 XTP up the mountains today and my regret is that I didn't make the switch from the Crosstrek sooner! It felt good to be back in a turbo'd vehicle.
